This is a prime location for bass anglers in the spring and summer, and receives fairly heavy fishing pressure, from weekend anglers and tournament fisherman. Although it has a lot of pressure, there are still quite a few big largemouth bass in Lums, along with a decent population of Hybrid Striped Bass.

The Biggest Crab Catches Are in the Coldest Months

Taking place off the shores of Alaska in the coldest of winter months, the king crab season is so treacherous that a cable television show was created to document it. Usually falling between October and January, the actually season is short, at one point lasting only 4 days. However since 2005 the harvest has changed from a derby system to a quota system, and now the season ranges from 2 to 4 weeks. The derby system made an already dangerous job, even more so, because all fleets were vying for a catch within a very small window of time. Now with quotas, catches are limited to fewer boats with bigger quotas. Even still, fishermen often go without sleep in order to be ready with the king crabs pull.

Boat Launching

Have you ever sat at a boat launch waiting to launch your boat only to wonder how the person in front of you ever got the rig he was driving to the lake in the first place? He backs down the boat launch, right to the lake. He then proceeds to take the cover off of the boat and undo the tie downs.

How to Catch Bass With a Jig

The first areas I start looking for mid to late spring bass is in the upper end of the lake back in the tributary creeks. These sections of the lake tend to heat up sooner and are usually a little off color. The off color water will hold heat longer maintaining more stability in inclement weather.

We all want to be on the river when steelhead fishing is at its best, however knowing just when this is going to be depends on many factors. The run timing for each river is going to be different, and the best way to get information on a particular section of river is to check with a local sports shop. Owners of these sports shop make a living selling steelhead anglers gear, and they know that if they provide accurate up to-date information they will build trust with the anglers and this trust may just lead to a sale. Plus many of these shop owners are steelhead anglers themselves and know just how important good information is to someone planning a fishing trip, they will also give you some very good ideas on what type of bait and tactics are working.
